THIS WEEK AT THE LIFE FORCE CANADA
EDUCATION THINK TANK MEETING
March 31, 2022
This week at the Life Force Canada Education Think Tank we were joined by Shawna Robinson, award-winning children’s author and rookie homeschool mom whose homeschooling journey began last September when she realized the glaring gaps in her daughters’ learning that had happened as a result of the last couple Covid years at school.
Shawna writes colourful short children’s stories that merge nicely with homeschool curriculum ideas, providing a variety of ways for stories to support learning, develop critical thinking skills and refine creative abilities. What is unique about Shawna’s stories is that they are all unillustrated. She believes that no adult could ever draw better than what a kid could imagine. As well, illustrations can distract or provide the opportunity for the child’s focus to drift away from the story instead of engaging in their own intuitive and imaginative abilities.
Shawna has a digital library of over 100 stories, all of which are 5, 10, and 15 minute stories, many with audio recordings available. The entire library is organized into a catalogue to make it easy to find just the right one that would connect with whatever subject and/or lesson you are teaching your children. Afterall, throughout history in most cultures, stories have always been a tool and memorable way to teach.
Shawna’s work can be found on her blog: www.EverydayHomeSchoolStories.com. Visit www.EverydayIcing.com to find her digital library as well as her first published storybook.
